Demand Forecasting

Business case

For a leading Polish concern specializing in wholesale distribution of food products, we have developed a project focused on effective demand forecasting. The project aim was to improve decision-making processes in the context of offered promotions and individual recommendations per product for given store.

For this purpose, we have combined transactional data (from fiscal cash registers) with external data (meteorological data), which allowed us to accurately estimate future demand at the level of 82% during the pandemic period in 2020.

Solution

  • A forecasting model combining cash register data with data from:
    • weather forecasts
    • special offers
    • store characteristics

Outcomes

  • Individual sales plan for each selected store
  • Forecast effectiveness at the level of 82% [data for the 2020 lockdown period]
